Director’s Note: There are more than 63 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in India today and they are a key driver of the economy. However, they struggle when it comes to securing operating capital and loans.
Alok and Siddharth, the two co-founders of Indifi have one simple mission: to help small businesses thrive. This mission has been inspired by their own personal journeys- Siddharth’s father was an entrepreneur and he proudly recalls how the first loan his father took from a bank really set the grounds for progress in their household.
Alok, on the other hand, comes from a very simple family that served the government and always lived with just about enough to get by. He talks of his time growing up with both satisfaction and humbleness. His desire to make a change was triggered during his days in IIT.
I found it quite fitting that the two of them met on Facebook. In my view, they are the perfect co-founders. They know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and know where the other needs to be supported. The pride in their voice as they shared the stories of customers who have expanded and grown as a result of a small loan was truly palpable. As was the fact that they are making a difference to India’s economy.
