Building a collaborative vision to achieve Migrant Worker Resilience: Why We Invested in Jan Sahas
Jan Sahas is a non-profit organisation working on strengthening economic opportunities, land, livelihoods and welfare benefits for India’s most marginalised communities. Jan Sahas provides individual support such as counselling, legal aid, access to livelihoods, skills training, land and property rights, social support such as community programs, social and behaviour change, awareness drives, and works with the local government, police and state apparatus to influence better policies and implementation for these groups. Jan Sahas works with marginalized communities and groups to enable them to have possession of land and assets, access land-related services such as mutation, registration, record updation, access legal aid over disputes in order to ease the use of land towards a better economic future.

<b-text>Director’s Note:<b-text> I have to be honest here, I was eager to meet Ashif Shaikh. A simple google search is all you need to become a fan. His work to fight forced labour practices, caste-based commercial sexual exploitation of children, and human trafficking have received national and international acclaim. "Jan Sahas," he says, "works for the invisible community of India." Even the scale of this statement is incomprehensible for most of us.
Another thing that really caught my attention is that. Ashif always says ‘we’. He seldom used the word ‘I’. He believes that a true visionary will aggregate like-minded people towards a collective mission. He sincerely believes that he has nothing much to do with the accomplishments of Jan Sahas. He credits his foot soldiers. His 1800+ Jan Sahas task force spread across 14000+ villages and urban areas of 57 districts across nine states of India. Ashif has empowered this nation for 2 decades and he shall continue to do that for decades to come. It was truly a rewarding experience to be able to share a glimpse of this man’s remarkable life.
